Small powerful electric motors with battery operation are becoming increasingly popular. They were primarily designed for SUPs (stand up paddlers). Many electric motors, especially the Vaquita from ePropulsion, were developed for mounting in the US box fin box or can be strapped under the boat, e.g. kayak, with tensioning straps using an adapter. A kayak does not usually have a fin box for mounting an electric motor. Mounting under the boat using a tensioning strap is cumbersome and must be carried out on land inserting the boat into the water requires a minimum water depth. The strapped-on motor is under the boat for the entire journey and considerably increases the flow resistance when the motor is switched off, e.g. when the battery is flat. There is a risk that the rigidly strapped-on motor will be damaged, get stuck or lost if it touches the bottom. The new electric motor mount from OKayak is designed for boats, especially kayaks or paddle boats, which are equipped with a rudder. The new hinged bracket is hooked onto the axis of the rudder, positioning the electric motor behind the rudder. Initially, this solution was tested with the widely used Prijon steering system, but other similar steering systems can also fit, as there are a total of 6 additional holes in the bracket head, so that the best possible position can be found both vertically and horizontally. The Okayak bracket offers the perfect solution for conveniently and quickly attaching the electric motor to the steering system using a folding mechanism, allowing the motor to be caught up with a line while driving. The bracket is designed so that the angle of the bracket can be adjusted in 5 stages. This allows the motor to be optimally aligned horizontally depending on the type of boat. The Vaquita itself can be attached to the bracket without tools using the included fin adapter. In the raised position (standby), the cable can be fixed with the clamping device of the steering system so that the motor is out of the water when raised. In an extended folded-back position of the motor bracket, the motor can remain without rope fixation (transport/parking position). The boat is not further manipulated or damaged by drilling holes, except that an extended screw axle is screwed into the rudder mount once. A cable holder on the bracket head ensures secure positioning of the cable between the motor and battery.
