A cheap big pit reel for carp fishing for little money - is that even possible?
As the market in this price segment is very limited and reasonable free spool reels start at just under €150-200, we spent a long time looking for a reasonably priced alternative for price-conscious anglers.
When we had the first sample of the Mikado Speedrunner in our hands, we were immediately convinced. However, before we added such a relatively exotic reel to our range, the Speedrunner first had to pass the M&R endurance test on the water.
But first the technical facts:
The scope of delivery includes a deep spool made of aluminium, as well as a flat spool made of plastic. A second metal spool would be great, but considering the price, you can't complain. Most comparable models in this price segment do not come with a spare spool.
With a weight of just under 700g and a line capacity of over 700 metres of 0.30mm line, it is definitely one of the larger carp reels and is comparable to a Shimano Big Baitrunner LC.
Visually, the reel makes quite an impression, with discreet gold design elements, a wood-look knob and a simple black housing creating a classy overall impression.
6+1 ball bearings ensure smooth running. Even heavy leads weighing more than 200 grams can be easily and comfortably reeled in, even over long distances.
The line lay is flawless thanks to the Super Slow Oscillation System. Thanks to the perfect winding pattern, even with braided lines, the Mikado Speedrunner 10007 is also suitable for casting over long distances.
Both the quickly adjustable front drag and the built-in free spool system can be very finely adjusted. Even with powerful escapes from grass carp, the drag worked smoothly and gently at all times.
Conclusion:
With a retail price of €69.95, the Mikado Speedrunner 1007 is definitely one of the best reels under €100 and in no way has to hide from the big brands such as Shimano or Daiwa.
We can recommend this reel without reservation - M&R endurance test passed!
